The Chicago School is seeking an Assistant Department Chair to work closely with the Chair in overseeing the Master's in Applied Behavior Analysis program in Orange County and San Diego. The Assistant Chair provides support to the Chair for the well-being of the department as it relates to education in the field of behavior analysis. The Assistant Chair will provide leadership in strategic areas of the academic programs, such as adjunct faculty coordination, ADP oversight and management, BACB ® -approved Practicum coordination, academic advisement to MS ABA students, as well as assisting the Department Chair in activities related to curriculum quality and ABAI accreditation preparation, monitoring BACB ® -approved University approval status (i.e., course sequence), ongoing program development and updating as needed, and support of the Department Manager
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Assist ABA Department Chair with the following:
Monitor and maintain the MS ABA program, including the BACB ®-approved curriculum to ensure the program is in compliance with BACB ® University-approved course guidelines
Monitor the BACB ®-approved Practicum courses (must be in good standing with BACB ® supervision guidelines and have completed the required 8-hour supervision training per BACB ® guidelines); monitor Practicum instructors to ensure they are BCBAs ® in current and good standing and have completed the required 8-hour supervision training per BACB ® guidelines
Maintain departmental schedule of classes for fall, spring and summer sessions (may be asked to coordinate with the Department Manager on these tasks)
Review and file course syllabi for the program; this includes ensuring that syllabi are updated each semester by coordinating with faculty who are teaching courses in a given semester
Analyze and develop departmental documents, policies, guidelines, etc. as needed
Monitor adherence to institutional policies and procedures, accrediting/credentialing body guidelines, and other governing guidelines and expectations of the department
Develop departmental quality assurance measures and systems, which includes periodic program reviews
Coordinate department curriculum review, revision, and/or development; including assisting in the alignment of programs across all TCS campuses
Monitor current catalog descriptions of Department programs for accuracy
Recruitment and retention activities related to maintaining ongoing, healthy cohorts in the programs
Instruction of courses as determined by the contract
Serve as academic advisor to MS ABA students
Attend bi-weekly ABA Dept. faculty meetings via phone or online platform
Organize and coordinate ABA student representation in regional and national conferences, as well as the Graduate Research Forum
Represent the Chair as needed during days and times that the Chair is unavailable; the Chair will schedule vacation dates in consultation with the Assistant Chair and Department Manager
Serve on institutional committees as needed
Assist in the coordination of department search committees as needed
Perform duties as assigned by the Chair, Dean, Provost, or President of the Institution
Doctoral degree in behavior analysis, or closely related
BCBA-D
Strong record of administrative experience in higher education
Experience with blended (online + on-ground) teaching format
Experience in Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT)
Experience in teaching at the graduate level (at least 3 years)
Strong organizational skills
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Strong interpersonal skills
Strong problem-solving skills
Ability to interact successfully with academic as well as admissions and regulatory personnel
Work effectively as either a leader or team member to insure that departmental goals are met by providing support to staff and always keeping students’ and graduates’ best interest as a priority
