SB 479 Update

We hope you are all enjoying the last bit of summer.

The Board of Directors wanted to give you an update on the status of the behavior analyst licensure bill, SB 479. As of today our bill has successfully passed though the Senate Business & Professions Committee, Senate Appropriations Committee, Senate Floor, and Assembly Business & Professions Committee with unanimous votes. It is currently awaiting a hearing in the Assembly Appropriations Committee. The success of SB 479 to date is something to be celebrated!

There have been some concerns raised from our members regarding recent amendments made to language regarding registration of paraprofessionals. This is an issue that is still being discussed. It has been our intention throughout the process to limit the burden on our profession, while still providing the necessary consumer protections. The Board of Psychology has significant concerns related to consumer protection and the jurisdiction of the Board to investigate these individuals and has been consistently opposed to our original language exempting these individuals.

We are actively working on this issue with Senator Bates' office, the Board of Psychology and other stakeholders. A face-to-face meeting is being scheduled in Sacramento in order to address the remaining issues and we will keep our membership abreast of any developments.

As always, please reach out to [email protected] with any questions. Thank you in advance for your continued support.
