Job Description + Responsibilities

Unique Live-In Opportunity in Northern California

Our ten-year-old son is being placed in a unique living situation in the Los Gatos area. The agency which will staff his residence needs to hire a live-in program coordinator who will be working under the supervision of our son’s BCBA. We are assisting in the recruitment effort.

The residence is a lovely house (over 2500 square feet) on a beautiful flat acre of land with vegetable beds, a chicken coop, play structures, tree house, etc. It is only a few minutes off of Highway 17 (about a 15-minute drive to Santa Cruz, a 10-minute drive to Los Gatos, and an 8-minute drive to Scott's Valley).

We are looking for a responsible, trustworthy individual (or couple) to live on the upper level , an attractive self-contained home with 3 bedrooms, 2 full baths, and lots of common space (including an eat-in kitchen, dining room, living room, gorgeous sun room, and full wraparound porch). As long as the person is working full-time supervising our son’s program, he/she would not be charged any rent to reside in the home. Our son would reside on the lower level. (Each level has its own entrance, and our son would not be allowed to access the upper level.) Our son would be supported at all times by at least two, and usually three, behaviorally-trained direct care staff. Although staff might occasionally need to access the upper level briefly to prepare food or medicine, the basic idea would be for the program manager to think of the upper level as his/her home.

The job would consist of a mixture of direct care, program coordination (including data taking, oversight, scheduling, troubleshooting, etc.), and some basic household maintenance, for a total of approximately 40 hours per week. Total compensation, including a weekly salary and annual bonus, would be at least $60,000 per year. Benefits include medical/dental care, two weeks of paid vacation/sick leave, and (as noted above) the ability to live in the upper-level home rent-free for as long as (s)he was coordinating the program.

We want to make this position very attractive to well qualified candidates, so that if things work out well, the coordinator will stay on for many years, lending stability and continuity to our son’s program.

The ideal candidate would be a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT), a Board-Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst (BCaBA), or have significant experience working with developmentally disabled children with significant behavioral challenges. Supervisory experience and the capacity to work effectively as part of a team are essential. A background in nursing, and experience working with clients with severe psychiatric illness (such as psychosis and OCD) would be significant assets but are not required.
